About The Job
Murchie Constructions are proud to showcase another project for ALDI with the recent opening of the new store at 123 Takalvan St, Avoca. Occupying a site area of 7,544 square metres, the new store totalling 1,740 square metres is in a prominent location adjacent Stocklands, Avoca.
Murchie Constructions took possession of the site in late November 2019, demolishing an existing motel as part of the Contract. Following demolition, remedial works were required in order to prepare the site for construction of the new store.
Once construction began, progress was quick with pre-cast concrete panels forming the external walls. The 125mm thick insulated sandwich panel roof system, Bondor Solarspan, also forms the internal ceiling of the store resulting in exposed services being run internally.
The retail space includes 5 registers, packing bench, 14.75m long chest freezers, chiller cases and produce racks. A separate adjoining area includes a staff room, office, switch room, amenities, warehouse, large chiller and freezer room, cleaner’s area and loading dock.
Extensive external works included carparking for 117 cars, trolley bay, bike rack, loading bay, bin storage, driveways, landscaping and acoustic fencing to 2 boundaries.
In keeping with ALDI Australia’s environmental goals, a bioretention tank fitted with Ocean Protect Filters is installed beneath the carpark to filter the store’s waste water prior to it entering the town’s stormwater system. 268 solar panels totalling 99.16 kilowatts were installed on the roof maximising energy efficiency and minimising the store’s carbon footprint.
Access was maintained to the adjacent Retirement Village through the rear fence, and an alternative vehicle access to the new store has been obtained through the Stockland carpark.
Having built the original ALDI Store at Avoca many years ago, Murchie Constructions is proud to add this new store to its portfolio and look forward to working with ALDI again in the future.
